Well it IS in the New Testament. Jesus may not have originated the phrase, but it was commonly used back at that time, so he validated it. NO, I don't think it's wrong for the pastor to use it, but you have quoted it wrong. It's ""Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets."
