How do I get my apps back?

I have had to restore my ipod because I forgot my password, once irestored it, i went to itunes to back it up and get everything back on it, only to find that absolutely none of my apps are in itunes. I had recently backed up my ipod but it was like itunes had COMPLETELY reset. what do i do??? how do i get my apps back
