Jail breaking question?

I want to use redsn0w to jailbreak my iPod 4g with 4.3.1 firmware on it. I have a 4.2.1 firmware file. If at the beginning, I choose the the 4.2 file, and not the 4.3. Wil the iPod be restored to 4.2?
